Overview
Within the Office of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Faculty Development is responsible for overseeing the creation and management of those activities related to faculty professional and academic development. The Associate Dean and other Associate Deans as needed, advise and work in collaboration with the Department Chairs to provide support for ongoing faculty development that includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:
- Advising faculty as they navigate the TUSDM promotion criteria and compile supporting materials such as their promotion dossier.
- Assisting faculty with the crafting of their individualized Annual Faculty Profile that clarifies performance expectations including professional development activities crucial for promotion.
- Assisting with the identification of mentors for faculty, and when needed providing input on individuals who might serve on faculty mentorship committees.
- Working with faculty to secure opportunities for educational leadership, professional advancement, and personal growth within TUSDM.
- Assisting in the communication of support/funds available for professional development.
- Assisting in the creation of faculty development programs specific to the needs of TUSDM faculty, in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
- Providing feedback to the Dean on the status of faculty within Departments.
- Serving as an ex officio, non-voting member of the TUSDM Faculty Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure Committee.
The Associate Dean for Faculty Development also serves as the School’s representative on the Tufts University Committee on Teaching and Faculty Development, which facilitates collaboration and engagement among Tufts University schools for faculty development programs, services, and issues. The Committee serves as an advisory committee for several university-wide faculty development initiatives, including The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT), Academic Leadership Development Program (ALD), the Tufts Innovates Seed Grants Program, and the Tufts University-wide Teaching Conference.
The Faculty Affairs Officer within the Office of the Dean, the Director of Faculty Education and Instructional Development, and the Director of Research Administration work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development to advance the School’s faculty development goals providing when needed additional sources of information and support to the Department Chairs.
